Kiran Bains – The Flavor Scaling Dynamo

Kiran Bains is a Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist and food business growth catalyst who has launched two food ventures of her own.  Kiran turns kitchen-tested recipes into scalable, retail-ready CPG winners.

As a student entrepreneur, Kiran played a pivotal role as one of the two co-founders behind Upcycle Kitchen's launch in 2019.  Upcycle Kitchen, an innovative social enterprise project and early adopter to transform 'ugly' or surplus fruits and vegetables—often discarded due to grocery store beauty standards—into delicious, value-added products, and slashing food waste and its massive environmental toll.

Bloom Acres Cookies was Kiran's next food launch, a small batch, gluten-free cookie using local ingredients.  She tested them at the weekly Farmers' Market, where a skeptical vendor swapped a free coffee for a sample and declared, "These are better than my wheat ones—deal me in." Sold out in three hours, that batch netted $320 and a wholesale spot at Sunday General Market.

Kiran contributed to research with the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food), a high-level expert group focused on transforming global food production. Her thesis explored the sustainability of animal protein and the environmental impacts of veganism, which parallels UN SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). IPES-Food's reports have been referenced in UN-FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) discussions on food security.  

Kiran specializes in product development, co-packing, and market positioning. She mentors diverse food ventures—from rural startups to urban innovators—turning culinary vision into profitable reality. 

Kiran’s trusted collaborations with SBDCs and economic development centres, combined with the launch of her own successful food brands, showcase her results-driven approach in the 12-Week Bootcamp.
